St. George's ride to the fortress

Every year around St. George's Day on April 23, the so-called Georgiritt takes place on Hohensalzburg Fortress. The citizens' guard and riders start the impressive march up to the fortress on Kapitelplatz with their horses. Once in the castle courtyard, the annual blessing of the horses takes place.

Participation in the horse blessing in the castle courtyard is free of charge. Free entry via the footpath, you may have to pay for the ride on the fortress train.

No registration necessary!

The ride and the blessing only take place in good weather.
