Yes, the outdoor area of the fortress will remain accessible after the museums close. The fortress restaurant is also open. See opening hours.

Where can I park my car or bus?
Fortress Hohensalzburg is located in the city center of Salzburg and is not directly accessible by car or Reiesebus - see also Contact & Arrival. Parking is available here:

Where can I buy tickets for Fortress Hohensalzburg and how can I pay?
Tickets can be purchased online in advance to avoid waiting times.
Alternatively, tickets can be purchased on site at the valley station of the FestungsBahn or at the ticket office on the footpath. Payment on site is possible both in cash and by card.
How long are online tickets valid for?
Tickets purchased online are valid for six months and do not have to be exchanged.
Discounts for people with disabilities
Is there a discount for people with disabilities?
Yes, on presentation of appropriate proof, people with a disability of 50% or more receive a discount:
Basic ticket: € 14.20
All-inclusive ticket: € 17.80
One accompanying person also receives the discount.

Do I have to exchange the SalzburgCard for a ticket?
No, the SalzburgCard is valid directly as a ticket for the Festungsbahn and the museums. An exchange is not necessary.
Do I have to book in advance with the SalzburgCard?
No, with the SalzburgCard no reservation is necessary - you can simply drop by.

Do I have to book in advance with a group or school class?
Advance reservation is required. However, if payment is made on site (cash or card), no reservation is necessary.

How long does the FestungsBahn run?
The operating times of the FestungsBahn vary. The last descent is signposted on site at the mountain station.
Are there waiting times at the FestungsBahn?
With online tickets, waiting times at the ticket offices can be avoided. Nevertheless, there may be waiting times on site as the capacity of the Festungsbahn and the museums is limited.
Footpaths
How long does it take to walk up to the fortress?
The footpath from Salzburg's old town up the Festungsberg is about 100 meters high, partly gravelled, steep in some places and takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Which footpaths lead away from the fortress?
From the fortress you can:
walk across the Mönchsberg to the Museum der Moderne and the M32 restaurant.
walk to the Nonnberg Monastery.
What equipment is recommended for a visit to Fortress Hohensalzburg?
We recommend good footwear, as there are always gravel paths, steep stone steps and bumpy paving to overcome, and adequate sun protection. After all, you are above the rooftops of the city.
Baby carriages
Can I visit Fortress Hohensalzburg with a baby carriage?
The footpath to the fortress is only partially suitable for baby carriages. However, the castle courtyard can be reached by elevator via the FestungsBahn. Most of the museums are not accessible with baby carriages. Baby carriages can be parked at the Infopoint and secured with their own locks.
Dogs
Can I take my dog with me to the fortress?
Dogs are allowed in the FestungBahn with a muzzle and lead.
They are also allowed in the outdoor area of Fortress Hohensalzburg.
Access to the museums, the Panorama Tour and the Princes' Rooms is not permitted - not even in bags, rucksacks or similar carrying aids.
Under no circumstances may dogs be left unattended.
Are assistance dogs allowed in the fortress?
Assistance dogs with appropriate proof are of course permitted.
Photography & drones
Am I allowed to take photos or use drones at the fortress?
Drones are not permitted in the fortress. Photography is permitted indoors without flash and only for private purposes.
Audio guides & guided tours
Are there audio guides at the fortress?
No, there are no audio guides. Instead, there are information boards in German, English and Italian as well as some audio stations.
Are there public guided tours?
Public guided tours are announced on our homepage. Many visitors explore the fortress on their own. You are welcome to book an exclusive, private guided tour for small groups about two weeks in advance.
Food & drink
Where can I eat or drink something at the fortress?
There is a drinking fountain in the castle courtyard.
Visit in bad weather
Is the fortress also open in bad weather?
Yes, the fortress is open 365 days a year. However, the Romanesque chapel is closed in winter and individual areas may be temporarily closed in the event of ice and snow for safety reasons.
